Papers contain correspondence, writings, course materials, family history drafts, autobiography, and financial records; principally consists of her work as a historian and the development of the American Studies program at the College. Author of "The Dominion of New England."

Viola Barnes Papers

Apgar, Virginia, 1909-1974; physician and anesthesiologist. Mount Holyoke College graduate, 1929. Papers chiefly consist of diaries, correspondence, course and training records, writings, Apgar Score material, financial records, biographical information and photographs; focusing principally on her education and training at Mount Holyoke College, Columbia University, Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, the University of Wisconsin, and Johns Hopkins University; her work as an anesthesiologist, administrator, and professor at Columbia-Presbyterian and Johns Hopkins; and her work for the National Foundation (later the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation). Also includes a letter and an article written by her father Charles E. Apgar.

Virginia Apgar Papers

The Neilson Personal Papers include extensive family material. His letters to his brother and sisters are particularly valuable. Other letters present Neilson's view of life at Bryn Mawr College under M. Carey Thomas, his experiences tutoring Helen Keller at Radcliffe College, and his first impressions of Smith College. The also collection reflects his strong interest in liberal politics. Also included are writings of Elisabeth Muser Neilson and the Muser, Neilson and Allan family papers. Material relating to Margaret Farrard Thorp's 1956 biography, Neilson of Smith is included in the collection. Other materials includes correspondence, manuscripts, press releases, lecture notes, texts of speeches, and photographs.

Hammond, William Churchill, 1860-1949; college teacher and organist. Mount Holyoke College faculty member, 1899-1937. Papers contain scrapbooks, correspondence, materials relating to his arrangement of "White's Air," music programs, biographical information, memorabilia, sound recordings, and photographs; primarily documenting his work as an organist in area churches and at Mount Holyoke.
