Matthews, Mary Louisa, 1863-1950; Missionary to the American School for Girls at Monastir, in present-day Macedonia. Mount Holyoke student from 1880-1883, non-graduating Class of 1885. Personal papers include biographical information, diaries, and correspondence to and from Matthews. The collection also includes Missionary publications, Biblical materials, documents from the American School for Girls at Monastir, and two boxes of photographs. Majority of the collection focuses on the 1900-1918 period.

Spafford, Mary Otis Preston, 1857-1929; Teacher and missionary. Mount Holyoke Female Seminary graduate, 1879. Papers contain correspondence, biographical information, memorabilia, and a photograph. Primarily documenting her experience as a teacher at the Huguenot Seminary, South Africa.

Mary Preston Spafford Papers

Ward, Mary Isabella, 1874-1961; teacher and missionary. Mount Holyoke College graduate, 1897. Papers consist of excerpts from letters written as a Mount Holyoke College student (1893-1897), and letters describing her life as a missionary and teacher in Turkey (1923-1932). Also includes a large collection of postcards showing people, buildings, and scenes in Turkey and Syria.

The Mount Holyoke College Associated Schools Collection brings together a wide range of materials concerning schools throughout the world which were organized and staffed by alumnae. Materials date from circa 1850 to the present and include correspondence, reports, minutes, catalogues, programs, articles, newsletters, historical sketches, photograph albums, and photographs. The collection also includes notes and lists concerning many of these institutions. Materials for some schools are described by separate online finding aids.

The Mount Holyoke College Distinguished Visitors Collection contains information about scholars, scientists, politicians, social activists, writers, artists, musicians, actors, and others who have given lectures or performances at the College. Materials date from 1890-1998 and include correspondence with and photographs of these individuals as well as programs, notes, articles, press releases, and lists.

Mount Holyoke College Distinguished Visitors Collection

The Mount Holyoke College Glass Plate Negatives and Lantern Slides Collection was assembled by Asa S. Kinney (1873-1961), a botany professor at Mount Holyoke College from 1899-1940 who designed and documented much of the campus and created most of these images. The negatives and slides date from circa 1900-1931 and include copies of photographs taken at an earlier time. Most of them show campus buildings and scenes, classrooms, faculty members, alumnae, and especially students participating in athletics and traditions such as Mountain Day and Junior Show.

Mount Holyoke College Glass Plate Negatives and Lantern Slides Collection

The Mount Holyoke College History and Description Collection contains a variety of sources which document the history of the school, particularly its founding years and events during anniversary celebrations in 1862, 1887, 1912, 1937, 1962, and 1987. Materials date from circa 1833 to the present and include printed circulars describing Mount Holyoke’s original “principles and design,” lists of early financial donations, correspondence, minutes, reports, programs, publications, historical sketches, articles, press releases, audiocassettes, and photographs.

Mount Holyoke College History and Description Collection

The Mount Holyoke College Scrapbooks Collection consists of scrapbooks compiled by women who attended the school from the Class of 1880 through the Class of 1992, primarily as undergraduate students. These volumes contain a wide variety of documents, photographs, and objects dating from about 1865-1992 and concern the lives of these women before, during, and after their time at Mount Holyoke. Most scrapbooks include correspondence, notes, programs, greeting cards, newspaper and magazine articles, and notes.

Mount Holyoke College Scrapbooks Collection

The Mount Holyoke College Student Newspaper Collection provides access to a wide range of newspapers published by Mount Holyoke students from 1891 to the present. The publications feature campus news, political opinions, literary works and criticisms, and advertisements; overall, they provide an excellent overview of ideas, issues, and events happening on- and off-campus throughout Mount Holyoke's history. Issues from June 1891 through April 2017 have been digitized. 

The title of the student paper has changed through time:
The Mount Holyoke was published from June 1891 to June 1917.
The Mount Holyoke News was published from October 1917 through February 1968.
choragos was published from March 1968 through December 1982.
The Mount Holyoke News was published from February 1983 to the present.

The Mount Holyoke College Traditions Collection consists of programs, articles, historical sketches, notes, audio cassettes, DVDs, and photographs dating from 1838 to the present which concern customs and rituals at the school, primarily those in which students participate.

Consists of reports, correspondence, minutes, course descriptions, articles, brochures, manuals, booklets, scrapbooks, newsletters, questionnaires, recollections, announcements, certificates, lists, audio cassettes, and photographs documenting the impact of various wars in the United States, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East on students, faculty, administrators, and alumnae of Mount Holyoke College. Most materials concern World War I (1914-1918), World War II (1939-1945), and the Vietnam War (1961-1975).

Mount Holyoke College War Collection

Mount Holyoke Seminary and College Scrapbooks date from circa 1837-1954 and were compiled by teachers, administrators, and alumnae including Anna C. Edwards, Class of 1859, a faculty member from 1868-1892 and Associate Principal from 1883-1888. These volumes primarily contain newspaper articles describing ceremonies, lectures, and other events at the school, improvements to the campus, and the activities of students, faculty, and staff. Some scrapbooks also contain programs, invitations, tickets, magazine articles, and notes.
