A 1937 Mount Holyoke Alumnae Quarterly article listing the first recipients of the Mount Holyoke Medal of Honor. The medal is awarded by the Mount Holyoke Alumnae Association for 'eminent service in promoting the effectiveness of the Alumnae Association, for signal service in completeing definite projects undertaken by the College, or for other noteworthy services which strengthen the position of the college.' The Mount Holyoke Medal of Honor was given to Lucy Cope Shelmire, Class of 1877, Mary Dudley Willcox, Class of 1878, Marion Gaylord Atwell, Class of 1879, Elizabeth Bartlett Barry, Class of 1881, Mary Louisa Matthews, Class of 1884, Mary Phylinda Dole, Class of 1886, Florence Purington, Class of 1886, Mary Warner Crowell, Class of 1889, Caroline Boardman Greene, Class of 1889, Bertha Eliza Blakely, Class of 1893, Beth Bradford Gilchrist, Class of 1902, Charlotte Leavitt Gilpatric, Class of 1902, Mary Augusta Clark, Class of 1903, and Sarah Streeter Lester, Class of 1911.
