Four pages. Lizzie writes to Nathaniel on August 2, 1864, from Westbrook, Maine. Nathaniel responds over a month later on September 10, 1864, from his camp at Bolivar Heights, Virginia, anxious to hear more from her about their daughter. He responds on the same pages by writing in between the initial script from Lizzie. The letter from Lizzie contains mostly news from home: visitors, traveling to see family, the drought and heat of the season, and a fire in a nearby town that destroys the home of a relative. Nathaniel writes back with some news of his recent trip with the regiment to Charlestown, Virginia, and of their household finances.
