The YWCA of Brooklyn, New York is a large metropolitan association of the YWCA of the U.S.A. maintaining several branches and a broad range of programs. The organizational and administrative history of the organization can be tracked from its application for affiliation with the YWCA of the U.S.A. as a charter association through 1950 through its governing documents, historical notes and administrative records. In addition to serving a large community the YWCA of Brooklyn employs a large staff to maintain its programs, facilities and personnel. In 1947 a labor issue with building staff comes to a head and protracted negotiations result in a strike. Correspondence, meeting notes and statements describe the events though most documents are from the position of the YWCA of the U.S.A. and the YWCA of Brooklyn. Another consequence of maintaining a multi-branch association is the distribution of management. The report "Study of the buildings management problems of the Brooklyn Young Women's Christian Association 1936-1937" examines the challenges of decentralized building management and makes suggestions for a more efficient structure. Addition documents include lists of professional and volunteer leadership and a completed residence survey.
