Documents concerning YWCA of the U.S.A. associations in Malden, the Merrimack Valley, Nantucket and New Bedford, Massachusetts. Visitation reports describe and assess the association's program, leadership, activities, facilities and services. Other documents include constitutions and bylaws, lists of professional and volunteer leadership, governing documents, residence surveys, a community survey of Lowell and association historical summaries. Correspondence and reports from the Merrimack Valley concern the associations in Lowell, Lawrence, Haverhill, Newburyport and their surrounding communities. The cities and communities have large industrial and international programs and struggle with similar financial and adjustment challenges. Additional correspondence and reports from the YWCA of New Bedford discusses their interest in providing services for their African American population. While the official policy of the association and its facilities is to be nondiscriminating the association is finding challenges in recruiting and representation in all areas of the program.
