In June 1998, on the 29th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion and during Lesbian Gay Pride Month, Mark Green, Public Advocate for the City of New York, presented Carmen Vázquez with the Advocate's Award for "exemplary leadership, commitment and advocacy on behalf of the lesbian and gay community and all New Yorkers."
